The IRSWA is pleased to announce that it will host the Industrial Advocacy Program in Perth from Friday 26 August 2016  – Sunday 28 August 2016. The course objectives are to:

  • Provide a skills based program which exposes participants to the principles and practices of advocacy in the Fair Work Commission.  

  • Provide participants with an opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills of advocacy within the Fair Work Commission with the supervision and support of experienced advocates and Tribunal members.

The course is designed to cater for a range of experience levels from those who have never engaged in formal advocacy to those who are experienced but wish to hone their skills. The course will be delivered by former Senior Deputy President Brian Lacy and QC Chris O'Grady of the Melbourne Bar together with a range of experienced advocates and current members of the Fair Work Commission who will work with participants in the workshop sessions.

The course will be conducted over three days.  On Friday 26 August 2016 the theory component of the course will be delivered.  On Saturday 27 August 2016 and Sunday 28 August 2016 skill workshops (moots) will be held in the courts at Fair Work Australia.  Certificates will be presented to participants at a function on Sunday afternoon following the conclusion of the course.  

The registration fee includes detailed course materials, 3 days of learning, morning/afternoon tea and lunch on each day.

The cost per person is $1150 for members and $1350 for non members. Credit card surcharges apply. Please note: Place a 1 next to the appropriate price field when registering. 

Places are strictly limited and will not allocated until full payment is received by IRSWA. Initially only current financial members of IRSWA will be able to register.  To register members must log in first then the cost of the course will be displayed and the payment options selected. If places remain available for non members or additional registrations from the same organisation these will be advertised at a later date.  Applicants will receive an automatically generated confirmation that their registration has been received when they register online.  Confirmation of acceptance on the course will be provided separately with a prelimary reading list.  If an application is not accepted then the course fee will be fully refunded.
