Advocacy Course

The IRSWA is pleased to announce that it will host the Industrial Advocacy Program in Perth from Friday 18th of August 2017 until Sunday 20th of August 2017. The course objectives are to:

  • Provide a skills based program which exposes participants to the principles and practices of advocacy in the Fair Work Commission.  

  • Provide participants with an opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills of advocacy within the Fair Work Commission with the supervision and support of experienced advocates and Tribunal members.

The course is designed to cater for a range of experience levels from those who have never engaged in formal advocacy to those who are experienced but wish to hone their skills. The course will be delivered by former Senior Deputy President Brian Lacy and QC Chris O'Grady of the Melbourne Bar together with a range of experienced advocates and current members of the Fair Work Commission who will work with participants in the workshop sessions.

The course will be conducted over three days.  On Friday 18 August 2017 the theory component of the course will be delivered.  On Saturday 19 August 2017 and Sunday 20 August 2017 skill workshops (moots) will be held in the courts at the Fair Work Commission.  Certificates will be presented to participants at a function on Sunday afternoon following the conclusion of the course.

The registration fee includes detailed course materials, 3 days of learning, morning/afternoon tea and lunch on each day.

The cost per person is $1150 for members and $1350 for non members. Credit card surcharges apply. Please note: Place a 1 next to the appropriate price field when registering. 

Places are strictly limited and will not be allocated until full payment is received by IRSWA. Confirmation of acceptance on the course will be provided separately with a prelimary reading list.  If an application is not accepted then the course fee will be fully refunded.
